The facial expression in Jinggong wooden carvings is typically solemn and dignified, combining the elegance of Han Chinese sculptures with characteristics influenced by the Han-Tibetan fusion. In this piece, the face is rounded with clean contours, the earlobes are long but do not extend beyond the jaw, and the lowered eyelids convey a contemplative demeanor. The elongated eyes possess a distant gaze, with a central white dot in each, while the raised nose corresponds to the distinctive features of Manchu facial representations. The head is proportionally slightly larger, adhering to the characteristics of early Qing Dynasty statues.
The headdress of the statue is adorned with swirling leaf and chrysanthemum motifs, meticulously carved. The statue is draped with a shoulder-baring shawl, and the intricate and ornate pendant-like garland on the chest exudes Tibetan-style charm, consistent with the traits of Jinggong wooden sculptures. The left hand of the statue faces upward, with the thumb and index finger touching in the gesture of teaching, while the right hand rests naturally on the bent right knee as the statue sits comfortably.
After the completion of the wood carving, the surface is coated with white lacquer, and the hair and attire of Bodhisattva are painted with colors such as gold, blue, red, and purple. Due to its age, there are slight signs of natural lacquer weathering and cracking, but overall, the preservation is quite remarkable and rare. The statue is carved from camphor wood, and because it's intended as a decorative piece, adjustments have been made to reduce the weight for easier display. This involved removing some of the internal wood, resulting in a lighter overall weight. The statue is well-preserved.
